Conference Summaries: JHUMUNC XIX (2016) : From February 18th to 21st, RM delegates traveled to the close city of Baltimore to participate in JHUMUNC. Delegates had the opportunity to engage in the field of international studies and diplomacy, both inside and outside the committee room. Students took on the hefty role of representing their countries while debating topics such as the Mediterranean migrant crisis, World War II, future Olympic sites, and much more. JHUMUNC proved to be not only educational, but also an extremely rewarding and eye-opening experience. NAIMUN LII(2016): NAIMUN LII was hosted in the conveniently located Washington Hilton (in Dupont Circle) from February 11-14. At this conference, delegates saw a new side to MUN, one packed with more competition, motivation, and dedication than ever before. Being one of the larger conferences in the country, delegates were in committees with hundreds of other students from around the world and the US. RM students had the opportunity to work with delegates from China, Puerto Rico, California, and many other places. In committee, these regional differences did not hinder the delegates' performances as they arduously worked to form solutions to international issues. Some RM delegates experienced these foreign affairs on a wider scale, as they were placed in General Assemblies such as SOCHUM and DISEC, which focus on issues such as women's rights and refugee crises. However, several other delegates participated in specialized committees such as the WHO and the Papal Conclave. These committees proposed a crisis (such as a fake epidemic in the WHO) , and delegates worked urgently on the spot to come up with solutions to these issues. Overall, the committees in NAIMUN were varied and numerous, giving delegates the chance to choose a committee based on their own interests. NAIMUN was a conference unlike any other, and RM delegates hope to come back next year!
WMHSMUN 2015: On November 20th, RM brought 24 passionate delegates to the College of William & Mary, located near the historic Williamsburg. WMHSMUN provided a stellar educational opportunity for all delegates, especially novices. Several students were in crisis committees and had to make urgent decisions for the welfare of their countries or people. After months of intense preparation and research on issues that affect people across the world, students participated in a weekend full action, debate, and diplomacy. WMHSMUN marked the beginning of a fantastic year for RM Model UN!
CMUNC 2015:CMUNC 2015, hosted on the beautiful campus of Cornell University from April 16-19, 2015, was a unique experience for RM. The committees that RM got were fantastic, as we got a wide array ranging from historical committees like the Constitutional Convention to committees dealing with pressing global issues, such as the WHO and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Delegates were able to use public speaking and communication skills through debate and resolution/directive writing in order to advance the goals of the committee. One thing that was great about the committees at CMUNC was the committee size, as no committee had more than 100 delegates in it. At the end of the conference, we all had an extraordinary time. Shoutout to Tadhg Larabee for winning a Verbal Commendation as the delegation of Chad in the African Development Bank.
